Breaks, bass, dub, techno, rave, acid, electro and Eurodance; 'Transnaturel' transcends genre. The first-ever compilation on Nehza Records is a mixed pot of sounds, and together they collide to highlight the beauty of nature and where we, as humans, stand with our environment in 2022.
We live in a time dominated by technology and consumerism, which means we often lose our connection to the brilliance of nature and its magnetic energy all around us. 'Transnaturel' is about reconnecting to our roots and removing distractions to clear out our vision and nurture a compassionate vibrational frequency.
This idea comes to life in 'Transnaturel'. The stacked V/A blends multiple sounds, with each track title encompassing the theme of climate change and emergency. Nine artists build their individual stories around today's environmental plight.
Canadian DJ and producer Cassius Select opens the compilation with high-pitched vocals and broken cadences on 'Emergency D'. Named after an action called 'Emergency Directive', the track mirrors the action issued when an unsafe condition requires immediate attention. In this case, that action is climate change. Mauritian-born GЯЕG celebrates his pet rabbit's chaotic energy in 'Tipti'. Staccato melodies and coughing vocals channel the playful nature of this small animal, illuminating the connection between animals and ecosystems.
Welsh producer Aloka injects a dose of gritty breakbeat on 'Digeridoo' and cites the cultural practices of native tribes as the source of his inspiration. The track is a take on people in power quashing native communities and, as a result, dissolving the connection between human beings. Malaysian artist Wanton Witch delivers a scintillating slice of deconstructed techno on 'Tanah-Tanih'. Named after a term used to describe different soil types, she creates a bleeped-out melody with menacing undertones.
London-based Polyphemus lays down a driving bassline with jungle-led drums and a demonic vocal on 'Rave Daemons'. The Parallel record label boss made the track for the dancefloor, but even in a club, the real world can never be shut out, especially in a climate disaster. On 'Selene's Serenade', producer and DJ Amaliah pays homage to the Greek goddess of the moon, Selene, and the tale of her seducing a mortal. Selene lulls the mortal into an endless sleep, allowing her always to admire his beauty. Amaliah taps into hypnotising tones to lure us into a false sense of safety when in reality, nothing is as it should be.
French producer and co-founder of the label Jerry Horny, Von Riu drops the psytrance-esque 'Oil Spill'. A dystopian atmosphere dominates the track, as he cites the exposure of toxic oil in wildlife as his source of inspiration.
Parisian producer NSDOS drops 'Mount Lico Dream', named after an idyllic mountain top in Mozambique, untouched by humans and only recently discovered on Google Earth. The hybrid artist concocts a potent beat packed with clicky percussion and chewed up vocal samples. A sense of urgency slithers throughout. French DJ and producer Amor Satyr creates a disjointed melody on 'Dragonfly Glider'. The producer draws inspiration from the erratic energy of a dragonfly, closing the V/A with Eurodance flavours.
